Future development strategy

The Future Development Strategy aims to drive discussion and decision-making around expected population growth in our western Bay of Plenty. It identifies the big issues – things like housing, transport, employment, an aging demographic, cultural wellbeing, the environment – that we must collectively consider as our numbers swell over the next 30 years.

It identifies the big issues – things like housing, transport, employment, an aging demographic, cultural wellbeing, the environment – that we must collectively consider as our numbers swell over the next 30 years. Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council are preparing a joint Future Development Strategy. This is to help plan for and manage how and where urban growth will go over the next 30 years. We have set out three scenarios for public feedback. You have to start with the end in mind. To build your personal development plan, look at what’s on the other side. Think about your future life. Choose a timeframe that makes sense for you – if you are still in your 20’s, a look at 3 or 5 years from now is enough. The older you get, the longer the planning period you can have.
